David Claude Travis' Obituary
Dave Travis, 73, of the Fort Myers area, peacefully went to be with his Lord on August 30, 2019 following a bout of illness. Dave was born in Summit, NJ and grew up in the Watchung School district. As a youth, he was active in his church, Long Hill Chapel in Chatham Township. There he grew to know his savior, Jesus Christ. He also met the girl he would someday marry. Dave graduated from Taylor University in Upland, IN. Later, after marrying Nancy, he did his graduate work at what is now known as Kean University in Union, NJ. Dave was a special education teacher. His first teaching job was with the Lincoln Intermediate Unit in York, PA. Over time Dave spent 20 years with the LIU. The rest of his teaching was at the Christian School of York. His primary job there was in the special needs department, but he was also involved with the athletic department. It was his joy to coach basketball. In 16 years he never had a losing season, and one year was undefeated.While in York, Dave was active in the Church of the Open Door where he served as an elder. He was very involved in the Sunday School ministry there. Some years he taught the youth; most years he was involved in the adult Sunday School. He and Nancy also served with several couples on the Fellowship Committee.Twice Dave and Nancy were houseparents for developmentally disabled individuals. First in York from 1975 to 1977. Later they worked for Friendship Community in Lancaster County, 1996-2000. After that, they lived in the Quarryville area of Lancaster County where they actively worshipped in the PCA church for 12 years. Eventually they moved to FL to where their sons had relocated in 2000.Dave loved his family dearly. The Lord blessed him and Nancy with two wonderful sons, Nate and Matt. They in turn have been blessed with two lovely wives.
