Allen Dean Dozer's Obituary
Allen Dean "Dean" Dozer, 94, of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Ohio, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025, under the care of Vitas Hospice and the Larsen Health Center at Shell Point.
Dean was born on April 17, 1931, in Zanesville, Ohio, to the late Chauncey and Phyllis (Tracey) Dozer. A proud graduate of Philo High School's Class of 1949, he served as senior class president and co-captain of the Electrics' football team. Shortly after graduation, Dean was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served honorably during the Korean War. He had the distinct privilege of serving as an MP at the signing of the Armistice on July 27, 1953.
Following his military service, Dean attended Ohio University before transferring to The Ohio State University to study horticulture. He graduated a devoted Buckeye fan for life. While working summers at his family's greenhouse, Dean met the love of his life, Millie Leasure, a floral designer. They married in 1959 and shared 63 wonderful years together.
Dean's career in horticulture took his family across Ohio and Indiana before they settled permanently in Fort Myers in 1974, when he was transferred with Yoder Brothers to their Alva operation. Known for his green thumb, Dean and Millie became well-loved for the beautiful poinsettias they grew each Christmas and joyfully shared with family and friends.
Community service was a hallmark of Dean's life. He volunteered with organizations including The Boys Club, 4-H, Habitat for Humanity, Indian Guides, ECHO, and the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival. A longtime member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Fort Myers, Dean served in numerous leadership roles, taught Sunday School, and led Bible studies alongside Millie in their home.
Dean was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Millie, in 2022; his parents; brothers, Robert Dozer and Harold Paul; and sister, Shirley Dozer Johnson. He is survived by his children, Elaine Cox (Jack) of Concord, NC, Bethany Randolph (Michael) of Fort Myers, FL, and Alan Dozer (Elisa) of Estero, FL. He was the proud grandfather of five, Caitlin McGinnis (JP) of Washington, D.C., Wesley Randolph (Krystal) of Fort Myers, Michael McGinnis (Mackenzie) of Washington D.C., Peyton Randolph of Raleigh, NC, and Mason Dozer of Estero, FL. Dean is survived by his brother, Donald Dozer (Lorretta) of Lancaster, Ohio; his sister, Peggy Cox of Dresden, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service will be held at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of Shell Point's Larsen Health Center, Vitas Hospice, and the caring circle of Shell Point volunteers for their kindness and support during Dean's final days.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 4141 Deleon Street, Fort Myers, FL 33901.
