Delbert "Del" Eugene Nugent's Obituary
Delbert Eugene Nugent known as Del passed away on Friday, July 7th, his 85th birthday at Lehigh Healthcare, in Lehigh Acres, Florida. He was born July 7, 1938 to Ransler and Susan Jane Friend Nugent on a farm in Friendsville, Maryland.
Del was a diesel engineer mechanic by trade working on boats and trucks when he first moved to Florida. He later established his own lawncare and handyman business and fully retired in 2020 when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
He was a member of the Villas Grace Church in Fort Myers, Florida, and served as a deacon for several years. He also attended a men’s Bible study under Pastor Steve Shipley for many years.
Del was married to his wife Rosemary for 22 years having wed in 2000 and resided with her in Fort Myers, Florida until June 2022 when he moved into Lehigh Healthcare.
Del was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Annabelle Garletts, Curtis Nugent, Dorothy Sines, and Charles Nugent. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Loretta.
He is survived by his wife Rosemary, son John Carl Nugent and wife Kim, stepdaughter Brenda Clapper and husband Dale, stepson Denny Lindeman and wife Linda and stepdaughter Christine Hoyt and husband Lee. In addition, he is survived by 8 grandchildren and spouses, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and families.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 29th at the Villas Grace Church in Fort Myers at 11:00 with a lunch reception to follow.
