The Lord used both Delbert and Sue to touch our lives in a very special way. They opened their hearts and resources for me and my family to get education in the United States up to PhD level. Their prayers and personal influence made us to experience the love of God and to have a glimpse of the life of holiness lived in a practical way in this world. We, John, Grace, Tony, Brenda and our last born Delbert (now 17 yrs old) whom we named in Delbert's honor) wish to assure Delbert and Sue's entire family of our prayer support. Over the years we have been praying each night for Delbert and Sue, now we will devote that time to praise and worship as we look forward to joining them some day in the presence of our gracious Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.

It was at Shell Point that I met Delbert Rose. I had known his second wife, Susan, much earlier. My dad, Dr. Bernard King, pastored her home church in Mt. Lake, MN. The warm, encouraging smile that always greeted me when I saw Dr. Rose will always be in my memory. When I would speak or lead Vespers in the assisted living building or in the Nursing Pavilion at Shell Point, I would always look for Delbert and Susan to enjoy his warm smile, strong handshake and wise words. When Dr. Rose was transferred to the Memory Care Unit, he was still the Delbert I had known earlier at Shell Point. He was well dressed in trousers, a shirt and tie and a sport's jacket. Oh yes, and the cap. I knew as his body was deteriorating and his brilliant mind was closing down, he was already folding up his tent, ready to enjoy the smile of His Savior. What a privilege to know Delbert Rose in the last years of his life. He truly "finished well."

Dr. Delbert R. Rose was one of the founders of Wesley Biblical Seminary. We are so thankful for his investment in this ministry. Dr. Rose's heritage is found in those he taught and the leadership he gave to the holiness movement. Dear family members, we are praying for you as we celebrate the life and ministry of your father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. God bless you.

Dr. Delbert Rose was my professor, and later my Dean and esteemed/beloved colleague at Wesley Biblical Seminary. As a man of courage, character, Christian conviction, and clear theological thinking he inspired me to persevere in service to Christ. As I think about him, vignettes come to mind . . . Of Dr. Rose preaching at a campmeeting when I was a teenager. Of him in the dean's office eating his lunch and listening to Paul Harvey–"Good day." Of him giving a devotion in faculty meeting on Ps 145–a devotion that inspired me to go and memorize that psalm. He was hilarious when he began to give his books away as he anticipated retirement. He would say things to me like, "Go to my office and look at the three shelves behind my desk. Turn down ten books that you would like to have. I'll see if I'm ready to get rid of them." Then I caught him buying more books at the used book store! His excuse–"I'm sending them to the mission field."

Just a note from Tenwek School of Nursing in Kenya to say that I appreciated knowing Delbert and Sue when they were here in Kenya and stayed in touch with them for many years. I appreciated their love and prayers. I knew Betty Schultz in Burundi as well. I praise God for Delbert's life and the many lives he touched, including mine. May you remember the many special times you shared. My prayers are that God will comfort you in these days of transition. Yet I know that he is rejoicing now with his very BEST friend, Jesus–forever. Psalm 23.
