Diana Lynn DeVall-Mon M.D.'s Obituary
Diana Lynn DeVall-Mon, M.D. passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by loved ones on Friday, December 20, 2019. She was 70 years old when she succumbed to the final stages of cancer. Dr. DeVall-Mon is survived by her husband of 27 years, Manuel J. Mon, M.D.; her four children: D. Scott DeVall, Roger DeVall, Jr., Daniel DeVall, Lori Carver; brother Desmond “Corky” Dillingham; sisters June Gauges, Sherry Jeffus, Betty Thomas, Rosanne Holmes; and eleven grandchildren.
She and her husband Manny enjoyed vacationing in Maui, especially watching the humpback whales there. In her spare time, she would cook and experiment with recipes. In retirement she was determined to perfect her baking skills. She was also passionate about spending time with her 11 grandchildren.
Diana was born on March 9, 1949 in Dallas, TX, but moved to Memphis shortly thereafter. She received her B.S. from Memphis State University in 1981. In 1986 she graduated Summa Cum Laude from medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine, where she also did her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. DeVall-Mon arrived in Lee county in 1990 and joined a private OB/GYN practice. Shortly thereafter, her group joined Lee Physician Group where she remained in practice until her retirement in September 2017.
Not only was Dr. DeVall-Mon a respected physician and surgeon, but she was also a leader within the Lee Health system, a teacher, a mentor, a trusted friend, and a colleague who approached everything she did with compassion and wisdom. A plaque, a gift from one of her patients, hung in Dr. DeVall’s office. The plaque is in the shape of a miniature pair of gold and white sandals, it reads, “no one can fill your shoes”. She was undeniably and absolutely adored by her patients. Her practice was robust, and she cared for each and every one of her patients like they were her own family. Dr. DeVall-Mon always wore her sandals, except for maybe on the coldest of days, which are few in Fort Myers. She has been and will continue to be dearly missed by her patients, her colleagues, her friends, and her family.
A Memorial Service for Dr. DeVall-Mon will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 11, 2020 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Guests will be received for an hour prior to this ceremony beginning at 10:00 AM also inside the funeral home chapel. At the conclusion of these services, guests will recess to adjacent Memorial Gardens Ceremony where a Reception with refreshments will be held for Dr. DeVall-Mon at the Colonial Family Center.
