Donald William Newenhouse's Obituary
Donald W. Newenhouse of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Hope Hospice, Lehigh Acres, Florida, following a 7 year battle with cancer. He was 71 years old.Son of the late Wynand and Edith (Buddenhagen) Newenhouse, he was born September 19, 1945 in Girdland, Pennsylvania.In his youth in Pennsylvania, you could find him in the pit at stock car races, behind the wheel of a fast car, being a jokester, hanging out at Tony’s, fixing cars, playing hooky, hunting, fishing, and courting his sweetheart Susan. Following his military service in the United States Army, Donnie worked driving truck, spending his last 25 years before retiring in 2008, delivering heavy equipment for Hertz. He loved God, his country, and his family. Next he loved walking Eddie, making people laugh, tinkering, playing games with family and friends, building fishing rods, being out on the water, spending summer times at Duck Harbor, making funky junk crafts, eating at Lawhon’s, Sonny’s and Rib City, mowing lawns, growing beautiful plants and tending to his garden.Survivors include his devoted wife, Susan (Goodman) of Fort Myers, Florida; his precious son, Troy (Nicole) of Arlington, Virginia; three adoring sisters, Carolyn Magalski of Waymart, Pennsylvania, Marion Long of Honesdale, Pennsylvania; and Doris Fritz of Bradenton, Florida; four cherished grandchildren, Maison, Hunter, Chloe and Bryce Newenhouse of Arlington, Virginia; eight treasured nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Eddie. He also leaves behind a number of extended family members and a multitude of others who were proud to call him a friend.Sadly, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tracy in 1975.A memorial service will be held inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 3:00 PM. Friends and family will be received inside the Chapel for an hour preceding the service.
