Donald Douglas Weir's Obituary
Donald Douglas Weir, 93, passed away in New Bern, NC on May 14, 2024. Donald was born December 7, 1930 to Wallie and Pauline Weir in Crawfordsville, IN.
Throughout his life Donald rode Harley Davidson Motorcycles from the age of 16 and was a life member of the American Motorcycle Association, as well as the Harley Owners Group (Southwest Florida Chapter) Don Registered for the selective service on the 9th day of December 1948, at the age of 18
He graduated from Lafayette’s Jefferson High School in June of 1950
On January 2nd, 1951, he joined the Navy
On April 22nd, 1951 he and Rosemary Felker were Married.
Don was assigned duty to the Aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge, where he was Certified Radar Operator (RD3). He later transferred to the USS Midway. He earned a Good Conduct medal, the Navy Occupation Services Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He spent a total of 3 years 8 months in foreign duty / at sea during the Korean war. Don was then Honorably discharged from the Navy on November 18th, 1954
He got his Commercial Pilot licenses on February 14th, 1957, and joined the FLYING CHERRY HAWKS aviation club Rosemary and Don both flew planes, Don was a better Navigator, but Rosemary was the better Pilot! Don also attended Perdue University in 1957 before moving to Fort Myers in 1958. He got a job as a body man at the Bob Lincoln Oldsmobile dealership here on Fowler street, He was the body shop manager there for more than 20 years. After the dealership closed, he worked for Val Ward Cadillac as a body damage estimator. He retired at age 65 (1995) then went on to attend Edison College where he earned an A.S. Degree in Computer Programming and Applications in June of the year 2000
Donald is preceded in passing by his parents, and his wife Rosemary.
Donald leaves his loving memory with his survivors, sons Douglas and Michael Weir, and daughters Debra, Robin, Donya, and Jennifer, and their extended families.
Donald's family has entrusted Fort Myers Memorial Gardens with the tender care of his final arrangements. There will be a graveside service held for Donald on Thursday, May 23, 2024.
