Dorothy "Dot" Morgan's Obituary
Dorothy (Dot) Campbell Morgan (90) passed away at Cape Coral Hope Hospice on Thursday, July 9, 2016.Dot was born in Ft. Myers, FL to parents Otis & Dorothy Campbell on December 20, 1925. She attended Edison Park Elementary School and graduated from the downtown Ft. Myers High School. She was a leader on the girls basketball. In 1941 Dot met Albert E. Morgan (Doc) in Ft. Myers through mutual friends. After returning from serving with the Marines in the South Pacific during WWII Dot & Doc were married in 1945.Dot & Doc settled in Ft. Myers where they built their home and raised four children. In 1961 she started what later became the “Kiddie Care” nursery, where she was affectionately known as “Aunt Dot”. She had a childcare business for approximately 35 years. It is suggested that she helped raise half the children in Ft. Myers.Dot was an active church member during her lifetime in Fort Myers including First Baptist, McGregor Baptist, Crossroads Baptist, and Caloosa Baptist of LaBelle. She was also a member of a sorority. Dot loved holding dinner parties for her Sunday School classes and also the frequent meetings with her high school classmates.She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. An additional hobby Dot and her family began a n the mid 1970’s was decorating floats to represent the nursery in the annual Edison Pageant of Lights “Baby Parade.” Grandchildren and nursery children got to ride on the beautiful & creative floats. On several occasions she brought home multiple trophies and awards!Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Albert (Doc) Morgan in 2002.She is survived by her children and their spouses: Donald Morgan (Gaye), Susan Bigelow (Donald), Edward Morgan (Cleo), and Leslie Morgan (Val). Dot has 13 grandchildren: Kimberly Morgan, Tom Morgan (Sarah), Jessica Morgan Lewis (Matt), Jonathan Morgan (Elise), Morrie Taylor, Caanan Johnson, Chloe Johnson Kanner (Matt), Walter Johnson, Luke Johnson (Monica), Alexandra Johnson Fish (Joey), Mandolyn Morgan, Les Morgan, Jr., Philip Morgan, and many great grandchildren.A Memorial Service for Dot will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Friends will be received for Visitation for an hour prior to this ceremony beginning at 10:00 AM also in the funeral home chapel.
