Dorothy Kiesel Poll's Obituary
Dorothy Kiesel Poll, 82, of Fort Myers, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024. Born in Babylon, New York, in 1942, Dorothy moved with her family to Fort Myers Beach in 1951, where they became a key part of the local shrimping industry. In 1957, they relocated to Fort Myers, where Dorothy attended St. Francis Xavier School and Fort Myers High School. She went on to graduate from Florida Southern College with a degree in education.
Dorothy’s passion for teaching was evident throughout her 40-plus years of service in the Lee County School System. Dedicated to her profession, she furthered her education and earned a Master’s degree. In recognition of her outstanding work, she was honored with the prestigious Golden Apple Teacher Award.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Poll; her parents, Hilbert V. Kiesel and Dorothy Rohl Kiesel; her brother, Hilbert D. Kiesel; and her nephews, Hilbert D. Kiesel, Jr. and Ryan C. Kiesel. Dorothy’s legacy lives on through her surviving family, many dear friends, and countless students whose lives she shaped with her compassion and dedication.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 27, at 3:00 pm., with a reception to follow in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Dorothy’s memory.
