Dorothy Marie Richardson (nee West), 79, a cherished resident of Fort Myers, FL since 1960, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, in Fort Myers. Born on February 6, 1946, in Birmingham, AL, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Dorothy and John West.
Dorothy devoted many years of her life to volunteering at St. Michael Lutheran Church and School. She especially loved the years she spent assisting first grade students as they learned to read and write. She was an avid reader with a deep appreciation for books and lifelong learning, and she enjoyed participating in bowling leagues with her husband and friends for many years. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, affectionately known as “Grander” to her four grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Robert Richardson of Fort Myers, FL; daughter, Cheryl Monroe (Paul) of Plano, TX, and son, Barry Richardson of Fernandina Beach, FL; one sister, Patricia Cody of Fort Myers, FL; four grandchildren, Matthew Monroe, Evan Monroe, Reagan Richardson, and Eloise Richardson; as well as several nieces, great nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 31, 2026, at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 3595 Broadway, Fort Myers, FL 33901.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Lutheran Church.
Dorothy was an intelligent and elegant woman whose faith and trust in God guided
her life. She was a perfect homemaker and created a home filled with love, warmth, and grace. She cherished her family, her sister, and her friends immensely. She rests in God’s eternal love, surrounded by His peace, and her memory is a blessing to all.
