Dorothy Joyce Slabosz of Fort Myers, FL passed away peacefully at her home on April 6, 2016 at the age of 77 after battling cancer for eight years.A memorial service mass will be held on June 4, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Fort Myers. This funeral mass will also be for her husband, Joseph, who passed away on February 8, 2016.Memorials: Hope HospiceDorothy, lovingly known by her husband as Dottie, was born February 10, 1939 in Berwyn, IL, the daughter of Vincent P. Mirtich and Frances Marie Sardock. She married Joseph P. Slabosz on October 15, 1960 in Berwyn, IL and shared 55 years together.After graduating from high school Dorothy worked as a secretary for Sunbeam. After marrying Joe, Dorothy spent her days as a devoted wife and mother to four children.Dorothy had a passion for music and dancing. For many years she and Joe would square dance and attend square dance conventions. More recently, she spent ten years singing with The Legends’ Choraliers. Dorothy and her husband were members of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Fort Myers. Because not all of their family lived near them, they purchased an RV so that they had a way of staying connected with these loved ones. After retiring from RV trips, most of Dorothy’s time was spent being with her family and taking care of her grandchildren. She always made sure everyone was taken care of with her well-loved cooking.Surviving are her four children, Cindy Rice and her husband Bill of Antioch, IL, Dave Slabosz and his wife Heather of Fort Myers, FL, Beth Wortkotter and her husband Steve of Marietta, GA, Janet Griggs and her husband Jack of Fort Myers, FL; and grandchildren, Derek, Brittany, Brandon, Frances, Bridget, Parker and Dawson.The Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Dorothy.Condolences may be left to the family at www.fortmyersmemorial.com.
