Dorothy Rose Wingate's Obituary
Dorothy R. Wingate, 91, passed away on May 16, 2015 at the Brookdale Living Facility in Cape Coral, Florida.“Dottie” was born on July 18, 1923 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her parents were Charles Meiers and the former Florence Brunck. She received her high school diploma from Withrow High School and her Bachelors of Arts from the University of Cincinnati.During WWII, Dottie was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia as a Naval Wave. Her main duties for the Navy Department were as a supply clerk officer.After WWII, Dottie married “John Wingate.” She and John had three children, Jim, Meg and Glenn. She was employed as a supervisor in the Department of Agriculture and the Internal Revenue Service. She was instrumental in the “color coding” process, which was implemented in the Internal Revenue Service Centers across the United States. Upon retiring from the Internal Revenue Service, she and John moved to Port Carlos Cove, Fort Myers Beach, Florida, where they enjoyed the Florida sun. Her favorite activities were line-dancing, bingo, shuffleboard, cards, bowling, singing, and attending church. Her greatest love was her family.Dorothy and John have three children, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her longtime companion and love, John, her parents, and her brother “Robert Meiers” of Cincinnati, Ohio.A Visitation will be conducted from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 23, 2015 in the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. A Catholic Memorial Service will be celebrated at 12 Noon by Deacon Anthony F. DiLorenzo also in the funeral home chapel. At the conclusion of this service, friends and family will recess to adjacent Memorial Gardens Cemetery where Dorothy will be laid to rest in the Garden of Serenity Mausoleum alongside her beloved husband John who died in 2009.
