Douglas Andrew Elsberry's Obituary
Doug, as he was known by his friends and family, lived an extraordinarily complex life during his short 42 years. He had an artistic eye, was the consummate photographer for wildlife, nature, and unusual artifacts in our modern world. His artistic skill was evident early, and he perfected his technical expertise as a graduate of North Fort Myers High, Edison Community College and as a Cum Laude graduate of Florida State University College of Communications. It was quite an achievement for a dyslectic visual-spatial genius. Doug was in fact, a lifelong Seminole who “bled garnet and gold”. Video production allowed him the opportunity to be creative behind the camera rather than in front of it. He enjoyed long term employment as a video producer for Seminole Productions (Seminole Sports & The Bobby Bowden Show), the Tampa Bay Rays and Waterman Broadcasting. Given the choice, he always preferred creating his still images as an expression of his artistic eye. He would have been a traveling photographer if his health conditions had not prevented his travel interests. Doug was passionate about cinema history, baseball, college football, politics, and trivia across a broad spectrum. During his last two days on the planet, he reveled in the mixed success of his two favorite Major League Baseball teams --the Chicago Cubs and the Boston Red Sox, on opening day.
Doug was a large man who had blond hair and blue eyes, a quick smile, and a quirky sense of humor. Although he had no children of his own, he was always very patient as a mentor to children of all ages. He had a wide and diverse circle of friends and kept up with hundreds of them through social media and electronic means. Doug is survived by his immediate family: his parents -- Debbie and Dr. Jeff Elsberry, his brother -- Greg Elsberry (Christy), his nephew -- Michael Elsberry, his maternal grandmother --Barbara Johnson and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins. Although his life was short, he made a significant difference in the lives of so many who will miss him and remember him fondly.
