Edith Bembry Willis' Obituary
Edith Bembry Willis of Fort Myers, Florida passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Saturday, September 16, 2023 while receiving Hospice care for some recent health challenges. She was 96 years old.
Edith was born in Sweetwater, Florida on January 6, 1927, the beautiful daughter to Hattie (Monroe) and Robert Lee Bembry. She patriotically supported our country during World War II through her service at Buckingham Army Air Corps Field where she was a real-life "Rosie the Riveter" working on the repair and maintenance of the airplanes so crucial to the war-effort. Her later work life was devoted to helping those with developmental disabilities where she served for 20 + years as the Administrator of a Group Therapy Home. Edith was also the loving wife to Lonnie Willis who sadly preceded her in passing back in 1999. She leaves behind her daughter Sandy Chernin and son Lonny Willis and a host of extended family members who are greatly saddened by the loss of her company.
A Graveside Service and Burial for Edith will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September, 26, 2023 inside the Meditation Garden at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555.
