Edna M. Verrone's Obituary
Longtime Lee County elementary school teacher Edna M. Verrone passed away on June 22, 2013 at her home in Ft. Myers. Born in Brooklyn, New York, December 8, 1932, Edna attended St. Pancras School and Grover Cleveland High School in Queens, New York. She received her bachelor of arts and masters of science from Hunter College in Manhattan. On August 20, 1955 she married Pat Verrone and together they raised three children. She taught elementary school in New York City until her family moved to Ft. Myers in 1971. She continued her teaching career for the Lee County School District for the rest of her life. She also worked for three years for the City of Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department as a Special Populations educator. She was an active member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Community. In 2008 she became an Alumni Initiate of Delta Pi Delta of Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity and currently served as its corresponding secretary. She was also a member of the Southwest Florida Film Society. A breast cancer survivor, she enjoyed reading, traveling, and classic cinema. Edna is survived by her husband of 57 years; three children, Patric (Maiya), Phyllis, and Michael; sister-in-law Anne; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren Patric, Marianne, and Teddy, and granddogs Roxy and Oliver. Friends and family will be received at Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, on Thursday June 27 from 6 to 8 pm, and Friday June 28 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 10 pm. Funeral mass will take place at 11 am on Saturday, June 29 at St. Cecilia’s, 5632 Sunrise Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edna?ÇÖs name to Alpha Chi Omega or to Lee County Animal Services
