Edward J. Weaver, Jr.'s Obituary
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on June 2, 1920 to Edward J. Weaver, Sr. and Bessie Carroll Bushman Weaver.?á He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 61 years, Kathleen, and sisters, Mildred Y. Weaver and Elsie E. Weaver Ernst.?á He went to sea at the age of ten and sailed aboard four and five masted schooners, including the G. A. Kohler, the Doris Hamlin, and the Edna Hoyt, the last five masted schooner in service.?á In 1937, he was shipwrecked on the Edna Hoyt, rescued and taken to Lisbon, Portugal.?á He graduated from the Baltimore City College in February 1939 and was employed as a marine draftsman at Bethlehem Steel?ÇÖs Sparrows Point Shipyard and a member of the crew for testing ships both in Chesapeake Bay and deep water in Rockland, Maine.?á On August 23, 1942 he married Eva Kathleen Wible in Baltimore, Md.?á In January 1943, he entered the U.S. Army, served overseas in the Air Transport Command in the China-Burma-India theater, was discharged as Staff Sergeant in April 1946, and then was recalled to serve in the Korean War in 1950.?á During his time in the service he survived two aircraft crashes.?á Having completed 31 years and 1 month of service in the U.S. Post Office in Baltimore, Maryland on June 6, 1975, he retired and moved to North Fort Myers, Florida in February 1976.?á He was a member of Washington Lodge #3 in Maryland since March 1956.?á Formerly a member of Druid Royal Arch Chapter #28, Concordia Council #1, Maryland Commandry #1, and Boumi Temple.?á A member of Friendship Chapter #36, O.E.S., he affiliated with Fort Myers Chapter #31, O.E.S. in 1976.?á Both he and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad.?á They were also avid volunteers as a team serving Covenant Presbyterian, American Cancer Society, Calusa Harbor Retirement Center, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Senior Friendship Centers, Southwest Florida Community Foundation, Hope Hospice, and many other organizations in the area.?á He and Kathleen are honored each year by the presentation of an award in their names to the outstanding volunteer in Southwest Florida. ?á He was a faithful member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Fort Myers since 1976.?á He is survived by sons Edward J. III (Linda), granddaughters Christa Dale Archer (Gene) and Elena Kathleen, of Tucker, Georgia; David W.
