Edward Frank Zabkar's Obituary
Edward Frank Zabkar of Fort Myers, Florida passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on October 31, 2017 following some recent health challenges. He was 93 years old.Edward was born on May 17, 1924 in Broughton, Pennsylvania, the proud son of Mary (Yerep) and Joseph Zabkar. He was a World War II combat veteran who served in the European Theatre of Operations as a member of the United States Army. In addition to receiving several medals and commendations for his wartime service, Edward was also a Prisoner of War following his capture by enemy German forces.He was a loving father to Neal (Sharon) and Linda (John). Brother to Joe (deceased), Dorothy, Dave (deceased) and Nancy.In 1985 he moved to Florida where he met his lovely wife Margaret in Jamaica Bay and they have been married for 23 years. Ed’s family grew as he inherited Margaret’s stepchildren Billy, Janet and Diane (deceased) . Along the way Kelly Ann and Derek chose Ed as their grandpa.Ed always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.A Memorial Service for Edward will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 4, 2017 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Friends will be received for Visitation for two hours preceding the service beginning at 12:00 Noon also inside the funeral home chapel. At the conclusion of these ceremonies, family and friends will recess to adjacent Memorial Gardens Cemetery where Edward will receive military honors from the United States Army Honor Guard and thereafter be laid to rest inside the mausoleum located at the Garden of Serenity.In lieu of flowers, the family instead suggests that a memorial contribution be made in Edward’s memory to a charitable veteran’s organization of your choice.To share a story or photo, leave a tribute or to offer condolences to the family at this difficult time please visit Edward’s memorial webpage at www.fortmyersmemorial.com and sign his guestbook.
