Eleanor (Peg) Gossett Parcells Watson's Obituary
?Ç£Peg?Ç¥ Watson, a longtime resident of Sanibel and Ft. Myers passed away peacefully from this life at The Lodge at Cypress Cove on Monday, January 30th, a few weeks after her 99th birthday.?á Peg was born at home on her grandfather?ÇÖs homestead by the Pacific Ocean in Centerville, California.?á Her love of the beach, sunsets over the water, shelling and fishing later brought her to Sanibel Island.?á Peg was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Elsie Worthington, her brother, James; sister, Lola; son, Jack Gossett; and her three husbands, Marvin Gossett, Robert Parcells and James Watson.?á She will be greatly missed by her loving children, daughter, Joan (Bert) Jenks of Sanibel, son, Bob (Evelyn) Parcells of LaBelle and step-daughters, June Ballard of Nebraska and Claire Hale of Oregon.?á She is also survived by six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.?á She will be lovingly remembered by nieces and nephews as well as scores of friends across the United States, who will miss her very much. Peg experienced a hard working, but beautiful and happy life, always encouraging others along the way with her great faith, humor and positive attitudes.?á She walked the sunny side of the street, searching for ways she could be of assistance to anyone in need of help from a friend.?á Her passions were her church, family and friends, and keeping tabs on the Atlanta Braves.?á Growing up in California and Oregon on her parents dairy farms, she ?álearned the value of hard work and cooperation.?á As a young woman, she helped support her family by working as a bookkeeper, a welder during WW2 at the ship yards, managed a California State Fish Hatchery, waitressing and as a motel, marina and restaurant owner/operator.?á After moving to Sanibel in 1966, Peg and her then husband, Bob Parcells obtained their Brokers licenses and opened their own Real Estate business on the island.?á Both she and Bob were active in the early Sanibel community, holding various elected or volunteer positions.?á One of Peg?ÇÖs passions was having an active part in the formation of St. Isabel?ÇÖs Catholic Church on Sanibel, where she was a faithful parishioner.?á Peg also enjoyed performing in several of the old Pirate Playhouse Productions.?á After moving to the Hideaway Country Club in Ft. Myers, Peg in her 80?ÇÖs at the time, learned to play golf and was a member of the ?Ç£nine Holers?Ç¥. She also accomplished an important personal goal to obtain her high school GED, which she realized in 1989 by secretly taking night courses.?á Whenever time permitted, Peg could be found puttering in her flower and/or vegetable gardens.?á A pleasure which she always enjoyed on her family?ÇÖs farm and throughout her adult life. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the doctors, many nurses and aides of The Lodge at Cypress Cove who has taken such remarkable care of Peg since November 2008, working around the clock with their positive attitudes and loving attention.?á Their dedication to her care enhanced her quality of life immeasurably in her final days.?á The family would also like to thank Peg?ÇÖs many loyal friends, especially Meda Alberse; they visited her faithfully during her long illness and often brought her little gifts.?á Peg called them her ?Ç£Special Angels?Ç¥. Visitation and viewing will be Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Ft.?á Myers.?á A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 at 11:30 AM at St. Isabel?ÇÖs Church, 3559 Sanibel-Captiva Rd., Sanibel Island, followed by a light luncheon reception in the church hall for family and friends.
