Elizabeth A Loughran's Obituary
Elizabeth A. Loughran, 83, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2024. She is immediately survived by her loving husband Gene of 61 years.
A memorial service celebrating Elizabeth’s life will take place on July 17, 2024, at 2 p.m., at The Springs at Shell Point, Fort Myers, Florida. In remembrance of Elizabeth’s life and love, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to WGCU Public Media or Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida, rather than flowers.
Elizabeth was born December 13, 1940, in Weymouth, Massachusetts. She lived her childhood years in Hingham, Massachusetts, and graduated from Hingham High School in 1959. Elizabeth’s college education began at William Smith College in Geneva, New York, where she met her future husband, Gene. Gene was swept off his feet by her beautiful auburn hair and lovable personality. Elizabeth transferred to Boston University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education and married Gene the following day on August 25, 1963. Elizabeth taught at various schools in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She and Gene adopted their daughter Stephanie (Loughran) Slater in 1971. A few years later Elizabeth transitioned from teaching to looking after her family and home full-time.
Elizabeth embraced her role as a minister’s wife by supporting and encouraging her husband Gene throughout his ministry as a priest of The Episcopal Church. She was an avid gardener and found great peace while she tended to the trees, plants and flowers that graced her homes. A wanderlust at heart, Elizabeth tucked away savings for the eventual trips around the world that she and her husband took after his retirement.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Helen (James) Arnold, and stepfather John Gallop, all of Cohasset, Massachusetts. Surviving are her loving husband Gene Loughran of Fort Myers, Florida; daughter Stephanie (Loughran) Slater of Asheville, North Carolina; granddaughter Brittany “Louisa” Trusso and great-grandson Micah Lambeth of Arden, North Carolina; grandson Alek Plocharczyk of Portsmouth, Virginia; brother David Arnold of Hingham, Massachusetts; and sister Pat Delano of Palm Harbor, Florida.
Private family ceremonies for the interment of ashes will take place on later dates at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens, Fort Myers, Florida, and The Episcopal Parish of St. John the Evangelist, Hingham, Massachusetts.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, Fort Myers, Florida.
