Ernest Gordon Young's Obituary
Ernest G. Young of Fort Myers, Florida, better known simply ar :Ernie" by his family and friends, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2020. He was 91 years old.
Ernie was born in Dearborn, Michigan on March 17, 1929. Ernie served in the United States Air Force where he was a member of the Air Force Swim Team. His last year of service he was shipped to Germany as part of the Berlin Airlift Operation. Following the conclusion of his military service, Ernie worked in construction in Michigan and continued in that field when he moved to Fort Myers in 1964.
He was the loving husband to and leaves behind his devoted wife of 56 years Philinda Ashley Young.
Ernie was preceded in death by his father Ernest V. Young, his mother Irene Young, his brother William Young and his sister Irene Pelfrey.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Philinda, are their three children William Young, Jeffrey Young (Stephanie) and Melissa Jackson (John) and six grandchildren, Austin, Grant, Luke, Jessica, Faith and Cole.
A Memorial Service for Ernest will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at McGregor Baptist Church, 3070 Colonial Boulevard 33966, (239) 936-1754. Ernest will thereafter be laid to rest at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full military honors provided by the United States Air Force during a private service to be held at an undisclosed time at the Mausoleum located inside the Garden of Serenity.
