Ethel Savickas' Obituary
Ethel Margaret (Galik) Savickas, 86, of Fort Myers passed away peacefully from natural causes on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010, with her loving husband at her side.Born in New York City October 3, 1923, Ethel grew up in Jersey City and Bound Brook, NJ. Lovingly married to Felix Savickas for 60 years this coming May. After marriage, Ethel lived happily in Colonia, NJ raising her family for 36 years and upon retirement, moved to Ft. Myers where they lived together for 22 years.During the war, Ethel worked for General Electric coordinating blueprints. She earned a college degree while balancing the life of a mother of two and advancing her professional career in banking and finance. Ethel moved quickly, advancing to branch manager and loan officer winning company awards for financial investments.Ethel was active in many organizations, giving her time and talent freely to better the lives of others. A devout Catholic, Eucharistic Minister and Lector, she was known for her clear voice in reciting scripture readings as a member of the Women’s Guild at The Church of the Resurrection in Fort Myers. Ethel was also the secretary of the Diocese of Venice Christian Charismatic group, praising God from whom all blessings flow.Ethel was active in her community, helping to shape the Brookshire Bath and Tennis Club as one of its first Presidents. She was also a former editor and reporter for the Brookshire Breeze community newspaper and a member of the Fort Myers Alliance for the Arts. She was an avid bridge player, an accomplished painter whose works decorated her home and those of close friends and a master gardener whose work around her house and town were notable for her attention to detail.Loving mother of 2 boys Thomas (Shera) and Philip (Elaine); 4 grandchildren Lori (Donald) King, Stacy (Lee) Howell, Ethan and Patrick and 1 great grandson Brayden. She was preceded in death by her brother Steven Galik.Ethel was quick to lend a hand of help when needed and ready with a joke to make her grandchildren laugh or smile to make them proud. She was honored to touch the lives of 4 generations of the Savickas family.A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2010 from 12-2pm and 5-7pm at the chapel of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 12 pm Thursday, April 8, 2010 at the Church of the Resurrection of our Lord with entombment to follow At Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery.The family would like to pass along its praise and gratitude to the staff of Gulf Coast Hospital in Ft, Myers.
