Eugene Usberghi, Jr. was born in Akron, Ohio to Eugene Usberghi, Sr. and Grace Desimone Usberghi in 1950 passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023. Eugene enjoyed a happy childhood in a loving Italian family. He always considered his brother Dennis his best friend. Eugene also adored his sisters Linda and Gina, to whom he was like a second father because of the 12 year age difference. The Usberghi's loved each other very much and always understood the importance of family.
Eugene was a hard-worker and excelled academically. He graduated from Springfield High School, the University of Akron, and Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. It was during his time at the University of Akron that Eugene met his wife, Maria (Dolly). Their story was not one of love at first sight, but rather started as friendship that grew into a long lasting and deep love. Eugene and Dolly were married for 45 years and had two wonderful children, Eugene N. and Nikki.
Eugene hated the cold Ohio weather, and after having started his career as a physician in Ohio, decided to move his family to Florida. He and his wife chose Fort Myers, Florida for their destination in 1991. Even after moving, he still faithfully followed the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians, now Guardians. Eugene loved his profession. He felt that everyone, regardless of their income, deserved good medical care. He touched the lives of so many patients as a solo practitioner. Throughout his career, Eugene also mentored countless medical students. He truly loved watching a student put their book learning to practical use and their confidence grow from when they started their clinical rotation to its completion. He served as the Director of Medical Education for the Fort Myers location of students from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences as well as the Regional Assistant Clinical Dean for the school until he retired in 2020.
Eugene was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Usberghi, Sr. and his mother Grace M. Usberghi. He leaves behind his wife Maria Usberghi, his son Eugene N. Usberghi and his wife Jessica, and his daughter Nikki Lin and her husband Bryan. He leaves behind his grandchildren Mia Lin, Dominic Usberghi, Alexander Usberghi, Nicholas Lin and Julianna Usberghi. He also leaves behind a large extended family that includes Dennis and Shannon Usberghi and children, Linda and Scott Fultz and children, Gina and Greg Klebs and children, Robert and KIm Bymakos and children, Michele and David Harris and children and extended family.
A private service was held for Eugene Usberghi, Jr., D.O. at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home and Cemetery on December 8th, 2023. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
