F. Albert Smiles' Obituary
F. Albert Smiles, age 95, died at the Shell Point Retirement Community in Fort Myers, Florida on Thursday, July 24, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born on December 23, 1918 in Staten Island, New York. His father was Albert R. Smiles and mother Josephine Michel (Smiles). He lived many places during his lifetime including : Elizabeth, NJ; Union, NJ; Croton Falls, NY; Upper Saddle River, NJ; Bernardville, NJ; Marco Island, FL and Dunnellon, FL, before settling in Fort Myers. He was a chemical engineering graduate of the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, where he was a member of the engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi. He worked for many years at Reichold Chemicals in Linden, NJ and White Plains, NY and Con-Lux Coatings in Edison, NJ before retiring. Al was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Janet Smiles. Survivors include his three children Ken Smiles (Mary Lou), Karen Sawick (Richard), Mark Smiles (Terri-Lynne), and his sister Joan Klotz. Grandchildren are Jennifer Goldsmith, Matthew Smiles and Andrew Smiles. Great grandchildren are Daniel Goldsmith, Rachel Goldsmith and Benjamin Smiles. Al Smiles was a loving and caring father and husband. He enjoyed his family and many years of travel. He was also a devoted member in his church. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Christ in Ocala, FL in September.
