Flordeliza "Flora" Marcelo's Obituary
Dr Flordeliza Marcelo, a devoted mother, gifted anesthesiologist, and lifelong scholar, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at the age of 87. She leaves behind a legacy of intelligence, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family, her profession, and the many lives that she touched.
Born on July 14,1938 in Hermosa, Bataan in the Philippines. Flordeliza's brilliance was evident from a young age. She graduated as valedictorian of her high school class and earned a full scholarship to college.
Her journey and medicine was made possible by full scholarship to medical school, awarded by the US government in recognition of her father's bravery- he had helped hide American Gls in their basement during World War II. During that time, Flordeliza (Flora as she was known) learned to play chess from the soldiers, sparking a lifelong love of the game.
As a dedicated anesthesiologist, Flora's impact extended far beyond the operating room. She was always ready to help those in need, including saving the life of a neighbor who was drowning as a child. Her quick thinking and compassion define her both as a doctor and as a person. Outside of her profession, Flora enjoyed gardening, reading, and solving crossword puzzles. She loved to laugh and cherish time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. One of her greatest
joys was waking up briefly at the end to meet her great grandson, Leonardo, for the first time. It was a moment of pure love that will forever be treasured.
Flordeliza is survived by her devoted husband, Edmund Marcelo; her loving children, Linda White (James White) and Dr. Edmund Marcelo (Carol Marcelo); her adored grandchildren, Samantha Ginkinger, Dr. Austin Marcelo (Rebecca Marcelo), and Janel Nolt (Dominic Nolt); and her precious great-grandchildren, Levi Nolt and Leonardo Marcelo. She is also survived by her beloved siblings, brother Marcial "Jon" Sioson, and sisters Erlinda "Linda" Bautista, Patrocinia "Zeny" Jalata, and Eugenia
'Jeanette" Buenavista.
Flora's family has entrusted Fort Myers memorial Gardens with the tender care of her final arrangements. A service to honor Flordeliza's remarkable life will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 12pm with a visitation from 11AM-12PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to any organization that helps others in her honor. Her brilliance, kindness, and laughter will live on the hearts of all who knew her.
