Fonna LaJean Lawhon's Obituary
Fonna LaJean Lawhon was born in Maysville Kentucky on January 11, 1953 to James L. and Marietta B. (Mingua) Workman. When their marriage failed, Fonna and her mom moved to Cocoa Beach Florida but later found themselves living on Fort Myers Beach.
At age 13 Fonna and Mark met while forming a rock band that became “The Mirror’s Image”. A high school romance became a lifetime of love. In 1970 Mark entered the military. At age 18, just three days following her graduation from Cypress Lake High, Mark returned home from Viet Nam on leave and the two were married June 13, 1971. They lived together as husband and wife until ovarian cancer took her life at 4:30 AM on March 14th 2021.
For almost 20 years Fonna played upright bass and sang with the 4 McIltrot brothers in the popular bluegrass band “City Limits”. For 30 years she worked along side her husband in the prestigious cabinet business they built from humble beginnings. She loved her horses and dogs and in 2017 she and Mark moved into the home they built together just outside Ocala Fl., the horse capital of the world. She spent every free moment studying nutrition and its effect on the immune system. She became a wealth of knowledge and the go to person for many friends when illness struck.
Fonna was truly a beautiful and talented woman and all who new her loved her. Although she was an only child, she was sister to many. She is survived by her husband Mark L Lawhon, her brother-in-law Brent L. Forrest and an untold number of friends.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 10:00AM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, with burial to follow.
