Frank Lattanzio's Obituary
Frank Lattanzio of North Ft. Myers, Florida, formerly of West Hartford, CT passed away June 11, 2012. Mr. Lattanzio was born in Hartford, CT on September 27, 1921.?á He served as an Army Infantry officer with the 1st Infantry Division during WWII.?á He was a graduate of the University of Hartford in 1957, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.?á In 1969 he was selected by the university to receive their ?Ç£Distinguished Alumnus Award?Ç¥ for his professional achievements.?á At Pratt & Whitney, as Chief Engineer, he directed the designing of the jet aircraft engines for both the military and commercial marketplace for which he received numerous patents.?á He ended his professional career by retiring after 40 years in 1981.?á After his retirement he spent the next 7 years as a consultant and director with Williams International of Michigan performing technical assessments of their product line.?á This included the small jet engine that powered the Cruise Missile that was used extensively during Desert Storm and later in the Iraq War. Frank was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church, B.P.O.E. Elks #2742, Society of Automotive Engineers, Knights of Columbus and the Del Tura VFW Post #8857.?á He was a very avid producer of stained glass articles for the last thirty years. Golfing was his favorite sport as well as being an active alumni in college, Habitat for Humanities, Lee County School Board Advisory Committee for Technology and other civic affairs.?á He also served six years on the Board of Directors, three as president of the Del Tura Country Club Home Owner?ÇÖs Association.?á He was preceded in death by his son Gary Lattanzio.?á He is survived by his wife ?áJoyce;?á daughter, Patricia Gallo; step children, Charles, Patricia and William Healey, Debora Zaborski and his seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Anthony and Nicole Lattanzio, Dana, Ryan and Alicia Healey and James Dellinger. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 1:30 PM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Father Mario Kono officiating. A Memorial Mass will be held August 6, 2012 at 9:00 AM at St. Therese Catholic Church.?á In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
