Fred E. Gearing's Obituary
Fred E. Gearing, 80, a resident of Ft. Myers since 1971, formerly of New Jersey passed away Monday, February 12, 2018 in Ft. Myers, FL. He was born July 13, 1937 in Elizabeth, NJ to Raymond and Vivian Gearing.Fred graduated from Manasquan High School, attended Armstrong College and Rutgers University and is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force (SACS). He met his wife Barbara while worshiping at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Manasquan, NJ. His career was in Bank operation/ mortgage loans and wholesale flower brokerage sales. He was a member of St. Michael Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church both in Ft. Myers.Before moving to Fort Myers, Fred was a branch manager at NJ National Bank, volunteer fireman with Manasquan Hook and Ladder Company, a Jaycee member, and an avid Atlantic Ocean fisherman.While raising his family in Fort Myers, Fred was vice president of the mortgage department at Flagship Bank in North Fort Myers, a coach for The Fort Myers Little League, Cub Scout leader, and was involved in building floats for the Edison Pageant of Light children’s parade. He loved boating and fishing in the local Gulf waters.He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara Clark Gearing of Ft. Myers, FL; three children, David Gearing (Chris) of Nashville, TN, Paul Gearing (Theresa) of Ft. Myers, FL and Lisa Peck (Dave) of Ft. Myers, FL; one sister, Marguerite Lewis of Manasquan, NJ seven grandchildren, Austin, Dylan ,and Marissa Peck , Andrea and Parker Gearing, Cortney (Eric) Million and Cassidy (Shawn) McCaa, as well as four great grandchildren, Savanna, Brooklynn, Aubree and Gracie. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.Fred was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Gearing.Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11:00 AM until the service time. A Memorial Service will be celebrated 12:00 Noon, Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Interment will follow with Military honors being presented by the United States Air Force.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Lutheran Church and School Foundation, 3595 Broadway, Ft. Myers, FL 33901 in loving memory of Fred E. Gearing.
