Gabriel P. Freedman's Obituary
Gabriel P. Freedman, 90, passed away July 13, 2012.?áHe was born October 9, 1921 in Malden, MA to the late Albert and Anne (Covner) Freedman. He graduated in 1943 from Harvard with a major in chemistry; the University of Michigan; attended the University of Indiana majoring in Earth Science; received a masters in education from CCNY. ?áHe had studied Japanese at Yale for the purpose of interrogation with Japanese prisoners for the US Army Air Force. After the war he was the president of George Bent Furniture which made reproductions of early American furniture.?áAfter selling his share in 1957, Gabriel began his new career as an educator.?áHe owned and operated Ivy Tutorial and developed the AMSCO SAT book.?áHe wrote the math and English portions. Gabriel moved to Fort Myers, Florida in 1992 from New York City.?áHe enjoyed his retirement making many new friends here as well as relaxing with his books and music. Mr. Freedman was a member of the John Harvard Society.?áHe was also a member of the Harvard Club of Fort Myers, the Yale Club, the McKellar Club, the SW Science Society and the Royal Palm Yacht Club. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Muriel Solow Freedman; daughters from his first marriage, Anne Fischer and Sara Lee Burns; sisters, Maxine Beller and Irene Speare; 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. There will be a graveside service on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens.?á Memorial contributions may be made to the SW Florida Science Society, Condolences may be left online at www.fortmyersmemorial.com.
