Gary Michael Montgomery of Fort Myers, Florida passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 5:53 PM.?á He was 60 years old. ?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á Gary was born in Troy, New York on February 2, 1950.?á He was predeceased by his parents, John E. and Helen Montgomery of Clifton Park, NY.?á He graduated from Shenendehowa High School in 1969 and then joined the U.S. Air Force as a medical corpsman, serving from 1969 until his honorable discharge in 1973. ?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á His love for the New York Yankees and New York Giants is well known by all who knew Gary.?á He also loved music and played the drums as a teenager.?á He loved cooking for his family, particularly at holidays. ?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á Gary was active in sports, both playing and coaching after relocating to Fort Myers in 1984.?á He played in the Roy Hobbs league and the Caloosahatchee Mudcats, playing second base.?á He coached his son, Jeff, as well as other youngsters in Bonita Springs with the t-ball Angels.?á Following that stint, he coached in San Carlos Park, where he resided until 1993 when he began coaching Babe Ruth in Cape Coral.?á He was an All-Star coach. ?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á Gary spent thirty-five years in the medical field in Albany, New York and Doctor?ÇÖs Hospital in Cheverly, Maryland, before relocating to Fort Myers.?á He worked at Southwest Regional Medical Center and HealthPark Medical Center in the cardiothoracic field, alongside Drs. Pascotto, Sidell, Metke, Hummel and Stapleton.?á He was very proud to work by their sides. ?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á Gary?ÇÖs greatest joys were his children.?á He beamed when son Jeff presented him with his first grandchild.?á He was thrilled when his daughter, Pam, represented the state of Florida in gymnastics at the Junior Olympics and he joyously celebrated daughter Julie?ÇÖs graduation from USF in 2009. ?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á Gary is survived by his life partner, Sandi Falk of San Carlos Park, his son, Jeff (Cindy) Montgomery of Hernando, Florida, his daughters: Pam (Matt) Kennedy of Euless, Texas and Julie Montgomery and her partner, Michael Gonzales of Lutz, Florida as well as Michael (Shari) Falk of Coral Springs, FL.?á He is also survived by his brothers, John (Pat) Montgomery of Huntingtown, Maryland and David Bruce (Ann) Montgomery of Newtown, Connecticut.?á Gary was a proud grandfather to Richard Jenkins and Rebekah Montgomery of Hernando, FL.?á He leaves many loving nieces and nephews. ?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to youth sports activities in local communities.?á ?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Our Lady of Light Catholic Community in San Carlos Park with burial to follow in Sarasota National Cemetery.?á Friends will be received from 4 ?Çô 7 PM on Monday, December 13, 2010 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33907, 239-936-0555.
