Gary Van Sciver's Obituary
Gary Van Sciver a.k.a. Big G to his family, left us to be with God on March 26, 2021.
Gary was born into a family with deep ancestral roots in Burlington County, New Jersey to Wilma Bennett Van Sciver and Harold Van Sciver.
During his youth, Gary was a superior athlete with letters in football, baseball and track at Riverside High School. His interests included fishing, hunting and boating. As a coach for Fort Myers Little League and volunteer at Bishop Verot High School, he introduced and nurtured his love of sports to his sons and daughter.
In the late 1970’s, Gary moved his family to Fort Myers. Gary’s most cherished moments were with his family, whether on a family cruise or summering on Long Beach Island, New Jersey. He would burn down “the Alley” at 6 A.M. to make it on time for Grandparent’s Day at every school event for his grandchildren on the east coast. Gary’s family was his joy and he shared their every interest with enthusiasm.
Years spent as a Real Estate Broker on Fort Myers Beach allowed Gary the flexibility to be the parent and grandparent who always “showed up” to celebrate every accomplishment with smiles and pride. He knew he was blessed.
Big G will be heartbrokenly missed by Lynne, his high school sweetheart and wife of 54 years. They shared their love and passed it on to their children, Gary Van Sciver (Lori); Mark Van Sciver (Marta); Cavan Guenther (Dan); and their grandchildren: Kyle Van Sciver, Carly Van Sciver, Mark Van Sciver, Kevin Van Sciver, Kelly Van Sciver, Brady Guenther and Stella Guenther. Although his grandchildren will deeply miss their superhero and biggest fan – Big G – his love will always surround them.
A funeral Mass will be held at the Church of the Resurrection on Monday, April 5, 2021 at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in Gary’s name.
