www.fortmyersmemorial.com.George T. Beemer, 94, of Fort Myers, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012. He was born July 1, 1918 in Clarks Summit, PA. He graduated from Admiral Farragut Academy, Cornell University and the United States Coast Guard Academy. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II as Executive Officer of the Destroyer Escort USS Duane. He returned to the United States Coast Guard Academy as an instructor where he resigned his commission as Lieutenant. He moved to Fort Myers in 1946 and was a member of Tropical Masonic Lodge, #56, F. & A.M., served on the Lee Memorial Hospital Board, volunteered at the hospital for over 35 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Myers. Mr. Beemer leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth “Betsy” Beemer; his children: William H. Beemer, his wife Beth of Fort Myers and Debi Beemer Means of Naples; his grandchildren: William D. Beemer, George T. Beemer, Evan A. Means and Bradley T. Means; his sister: Marjorie Couper and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens?áCemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Lee Memorial Health System in his memory.
