George E. Hazel's Obituary
George Evans Hazel, formerly of South Portland, ME, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at his home in Bonita Springs, FL on the evening of Sunday, May 26th. George and his wife, Mildred, have been full time residents of Citrus Park in Bonita Springs since 2000 and celebrated their 61st year of marriage in August of last year.George was a graduate of South Portland High School class of 1955. After graduation he enrolled in the United States Army and served in both active and reserve duty with the 5th Armored Division until his discharge as a Sargent First Class in 1967. After discharge he worked in the HVAC field and taught as adjunct faculty at Southern Maine Community College until retirement in 2010. Throughout most of his adult life he was very active in his church and volunteered his time working with The Gideons International placing Bibles. From 2010 to present he owned and operated a small landscaping business.George is survived by his wife and three adult children: Philip Allen of Cape Elizabeth, ME., Richard Lane II of Limington, ME, and Thomas Michael of Fort Myers, FL., He is also survived by his sister Mabel Ann Gorman of FL, Evelyn Mitchel of VA, and brother David Phillips of MA. He was a grandfather to: Kerri Anderson (deceased), Elizabeth Hazel, Evan Hazel, Robert Hazel, Lisa Hazel, Heather Hazel, and Hannah Hazel – in addition to many nieces and nephews.A celebration of life will be held at Anchor Christian Church at 11651 E Terry St. Bonita Springs, FL on Saturday, June 15th from 11:00 to 12:00, EST.
