GEORGE WILLIAM SMITH JULY 27, 2009George Wm. Smith, 84, of Fort Myers, passed away Monday, July 27, 2009, following an extended illness. He was born March 28, 1925 in England and moved to Fort Myers in 1985. He was a member of St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church and a former member of Our Lady of Light Catholic Community. He served in the United States Coast Guard, British Merchant Marines and U.S. Merchant Marines. He participated in the Relief Convoy to Murmansk, Russia in WWII. He enjoyed his many years of charity work with the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Marjorie Mae Smith in 2008. He is survived by his children: Geordie D. Smith (Carol), Lorna M. Johnson, Jacqueline J. Turner and Robert Wm. Smith (Brygida); two brothers: Robert and Harry Smith, both of Newcastle, Upon-Tyne, England, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 31, 2009 at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church, 5632 Sunrise Drive, Fort Myers with burial to follow in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends will be received from 9:30 – 10:30 AM on Friday at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33908, 239-936-0555. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church.
