Gerald (Jerry) Alden Smyth's Obituary
Gerald (Jerry) Alden Smyth, 86, of Cape Coral, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 5, 2011.?á He was born May 13, 1925 in Wilmington, Delaware to his mother, Isabel Davis and father, Calvert Smyth.?á He leaves his loving wife of 64 years, Margaret (Peg) Smyth.?á Also surviving are his three sons: Gregg of Cape Coral, Gary (Michele) of Bear, DE and Jeffrey (Donna) of Philadelphia, PA; his four grandchildren: Catherine (Katie) of Tallahassee, FL, Corey of Cape Coral, Sabrina and Grant, both of Bear, DE; his two nieces: Lynne (Jay) Condon of West Virginia and Leigh (Leonard) of Maryland.?á He was preceded in death by his brother, Calvert Smyth, Jr. in March of 2003. ?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á Jerry attended Wilmington schools until graduating in June of 1943 and entered the U.S. Army the following September.?á After returning, he attended the University of Delaware and was employed by Hercules, Inc. as a Research Chemist Technician for 31 years before retiring to Florida in 1983. ?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á He had been in poor health for the past eight years but his faith in God never waivered.?á Before his declining health, he served as an Elder in the Reformed Presbyterian Church (PCA) for many years in Delaware and also served as an Elder in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Cape Coral for six years. ?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at North Fort Myers Presbyterian Church (PCA), 2801 Trail Dairy Circle, North Fort Myers, FL 33917. ?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to North Fort Myers Presbyterian Church or their Missions Committee.
