I'm so sorry for your loss. Please accept my deepest sympathy. May you find comfort from your memories, as well as the comfort found in Godâ??s word the bible. Romans 5:12 says, "That is why, just as through one man (Adam) sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned." How loving of God to promise what is found at Revelation 21:4 which says, â??And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.â?
Gerry came to our church at Odgen Center (Blissfield) when we were in high school, We took joy in baby sitting his children, and he was a blessing beyond compare. He married Jim and me back in 1955. Jim was a pastor too, and went "home" in 2003.They must be having a good time there with Jesus. Gerry was so much fun, and such a spiritual leader at the the same time. We visited them in Florida, for several years. To the girls, we love you dearly. Sorry we didn't get there this past Jan./ Feb. We had to leave Florida early. Gerry was my 2nd pastor after accepting Jesus into my life. There was no doubt God sent him to keep me on the right road. I'm not great at staying alert while listening to anyone's sermons not even Gerry's. He came up with a great remedy for that problem, although he never admitted that was his motivation. He asked me to help him by meeting with him every Monday to see what I got out of the previous day's message. Boy did I pay close attention then! Even to the taking of very complete notes. In the years that followed whenever our paths crossed, Gerry would always thank me for my insights on those Mondays. It was only tonight as I was about to write this that I figured out what he might have been trying to accomplish back then. If that wasn't the case it would still be another example of God using this wonderful man. I am very grateful that last spring my wife and I went two hours out of our way to spend a wonderful afternoon reminiscing with Gerry. His love for his Heavenly Father was so great that day, that he shed tears over it. That was a powerful testimony to both me and my wife, Susan. Pastor Gerry Fisher was a great friend and mentor. He took a chance on this just-graduated college kid and gave me my first ministry job, shared life, made me come in on time to work, demonstrated passion in loving Jesus and loving others, faithfully preached the good news of Jesus, and joyfully lived in service to the congregation. He drove fast(cars & boats!), laughed heartily, and loved sharing hope in hospitals and at funerals. His eyes twinkled when he teased Norma, and he was so proud of his kids and grandkids. Thanks, Gerry, for touching my life. Our thoughts and prayers will be with all who gather to celebrate and remember this wonderful man.
Uncle Gerald,What an example you were to the Fisher family. I loved listening to you, whether it was serious or funny. You taught me a lot about prayer, really. I loved listening to you tell jokes to Grandma when she believed you and no one else did. I know heaven is filled with even more laughter and joy, something you excelled in.
