Dear Ruth, Elliott and all your family,I have fond memories of both your parents when your father was serving as rabbi of Beth Abraham Synagogue here in Zanesville, Ohio. June – I remember you and your family so well. When we were kids, visiting my grandparents, Gert and Harry Thomson, we were often organized into afternoon outings – Andrea and Pamela, Wayne and Matt. Now I am married and my parents and I live in Cape Coral and Fort Myers respectively, I often think of those times – Seeing "Jaws" ,singing in the synagogue parking lot. Rabbi and Gerda made all of us, as kids, feel so special. Please give my special regards to Andrea. – Naomi.

I met Gerda and Rabbi Friedeman in 1967 when I, my husband and 4 children moved to Ft.Myers,then to Cape Coral, from Montreal, Canada. They lived 3 houses away from me and Gerda was like a second mother to me ! She was was always there for me and my family. We shared many happy times over the years with her and Rabbi- my children's Bar and Bat Mitzvas,and two weddings,etc. Gerda was a most interesting,kind and generous person, and I was fortunate enough visit and celebrate her 100thbirthday with her. Elliott and Ruth, I am so sorry for your loss. There was never a time when I visited my Mom that I would not see your Mom. She was always a large part of my visit to Ft. Myers. I was new to Fort Myers and Rabbi Friedeman asked me(Dorit) to teach the Holocaust unit to the high school students. Through the encouragement of Gerda I decided to do so. It was a pleasure to talk German with Gerda and share experiences. What a wonderful, talented, warm hearted person. It was an honor to know her.Dorit and Gene Solomon
We shared a Beth El trip to Israel with Gerda and Simon in 2000 and have fond memories of this lovely lady. She was beautiful and gracious, always smiling and pleasant company. She will be missed by many.Joe and Marcia Goldberg
Many years have passed since the Simon and Gerda left Zanesville but those who remain remember the fine example they both set and the joy they shared raising their cherished son and daughter.
