Dr. Gilbert Jozef Draulans, 80, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on June 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 11, 1946, in Wiekevorst, Belgium, to the late Jozef and Maria Draul Read Obituary
Dr Draulans was my doctor for many years and birthed two of my children and I always enjoyed his personality and care. He introduced me to his Son who continues to be my doctor to this day. My love and prayers go out to the Draulans family.

It was my pleasure to be Gilbert's first employee in fort Myers. I was his office manager for 22 years and they were the very best years of my life. He was an awesome physician, a very caring doctor and a joy of an employer. I must say that there was never one single day that I didn't look forward to going to work.
I want to share one of my favorite moments, we were doing an exam and prior to entering the room Gilbert had a Little Debbie's brownie. During the exam he turned to me and laughed at a joke the patient had made and he grinned cheek to cheek appearing to have had no front teeth. The chocolate from the brownie had stuck on his teeth and he looked toothless. I was unable to respond because the patient might have thought I was laughing at her. After stepping in the hall I told him to go look at his teeth, he didn't understand why I was telling him that but I heard him laugh a belly laugh from the bathroom at which time we both broke out in laughter. This was one of the joyous times we had working together.
I will miss Gilbert immensely, he was my employer, my physician, my friend and we had a close working relationship. We could finish each other sentences. I'm so sorry that Natalie and the family has to endure this. My prayers are that God will be with you in this time of sorrow and I hope that you will always think about your good times instead of the sadness that will come for some time. Dr. Draulans was a fantastic doctor. He delivered both of our children. He was an excellent physician, a compassionate person full of life and humor. He will be sorely missed. Godspeed.

I was privileged to be Gilbert's first employee in Fort Myers Florida. I went on to be his office manager for 22 years. He loved working in obstetrics and he was so gentle and understanding of the women that he treated. He was a man of dignity and honesty and kindness. I know that everyone whoever had him as a doctor will be heartbroken.
I believe the most humorous thing that we encountered was the day that Gilbert ate a Little Debbie's just before going into an exam room. During the exam he turned to me and laughed at something that patient had said and when I looked at him he had no front teeth. The chocolate from the brownie stuck to his front teeth and looked like he was toothless. I was unable to laugh because the patient might have thought that we were laughing at her but when we got outside and I told him to go look in the mirror we both laughed hysterically for quite some time. It was then routine when eating Little Debbie's that we smiled at each other before entering an exam room. The patient was unaware thank goodness. He had a very different sense of humor that I loved very much. He was truly a level-headed gentle and compassionate employer. That was the best 22 years of my life. He made every day enjoyable. It was the only job I have ever had that I got up every morning and looked forward to going into work. Thank you Gilbert for those wonderful years.
