My wife of 40 years, Ginger Sands Johnson, died on June 18, 2020. The best day of my life was when we married and the worst was the day she died. She was born in South Georgia and learned how to cook on a stool watching her grandmother, and was taught to be a lady by her mother, Joanne. She never left the house less than properly made up and dressed. We raised three successful children who live nearby and who loved their mother dearly. They would stop by or call daily. She kept me on straight and narrow when necessary but at the same time allowed me to go fishing in Alaska for months at a time. We traveled together on several occasions to Kenya, China, Australia, the Bahamas, Europe, Canada, Hawaii and every fishing hole in the country. She was laid back, cautious, loving, a wonderful cook and great housekeeper. But most importantly, she was a good Christian woman who transferred her values to her family. Ginger was one terrific wife.
