Giovanni’s life was a tapestry woven from beautiful worldwide adventures and fierce dedication to his family and work. It was in the early 1960s in Livorno, Italy, that he met the love of his life, Ada Muller. They married and embarked on a lifelong journey that would span continents and countless memories. Initially based in Livorno, Giovanni began his life's work as an engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He and Ada were then stationed in Turkey for seven years, where the family grew with the arrival of their three children, Albert, Pierre and Monique. His next assignment took the young family to Saudi Arabia before they settled in Fort Myers in 1970, where they all proudly received their green cards. Giovanni’s passion for travel and exploration called the family abroad again to Algeria for two years, and then back to Saudi Arabia for another decade. Their adventures continued with time spent in Belgium and Egypt before Giovanni ended his extraordinary 43-year career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in December of 1995.
In retirement, Giovanni devoted himself first to his family, but also to his passion for service and community engagement. He volunteered with the Harry Chapin Foodbank, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the Town & River Association, while also sharing his love for Italian culture through teaching the language.
The family will celebrate Giovanni’s life on March 15, 2025, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, at 5632 Sunrise Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33919. The memorial service will begin at 10am and will be followed by a gathering of friends and family, at the church’s Parish Hall. All are invited.
