Gladys "Tutsie" Hollaway's Obituary
Gladys “Tutsie” Hollaway was born on November 29, 1927 and passed on to our lord September 29, 2020 with her loving husband Noris by her side at Calusa Harbour Senior Living facility in Fort Myers Florida.
She was preceded in death by her father Guy W. Kilgore Sr. and mother Gladys “Ginny” Kilgore of Columbus GA, son Larry Hollaway, granddaughter Ashley Hollaway of Fort Myers, FL, brothers Guy W. Kilgore Jr., J. Donald Kilgore of Columbus GA. and Walter Kilgore of Naples, FL as well as her sisters Mary Jean K. Carlson, of Winston Salem, NC. and Louise K. Perkins, of Charleston SC.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Noris Hollaway, her son Steve Hollaway, her great granddaughter Aubrey J. Hollaway, all of Fort Myers, FL, and her son Gary Hollaway of Dallas, TX along with her sister-in-law Cathryn Kilgore, brother-in-law, Kenneth Carlson of Winston Salem, NC and numerous nieces and nephews from Columbus, Georgia, her hometown. Her love of family, both immediate and extended, was what was instilled into her family from an early age and was passed on as she returned to Columbus throughout her life so that all of the family kids would all grow up together, even though hundreds of miles separated them at times. That bond and love has endured through many years that has had its share of both triumphs and tragedies. Every one of the surviving members relish this accomplishment of that generation to which all in the family cherish to this day.
Tutsie, as everyone knew her, was a very energetic and bubbly personality that never met a stranger and loved talking to people. Her ability to strike up a conversation at any given moment with any given person was legendary. Her ability to adapt on the fly was another known trait. Transforming from the beach to a cocktail party from the trunk of her car was nothing out of the ordinary, and she so loved the beach. Kindness was another characteristic of hers. She was always there to lend a helping hand and make what ever they were doing a fun and memorable experience. She also loved to shop, and could never resist a “sale”, and the never-ending quest of finding them. She was very sympathetic of those less fortunate and made every effort to help them as much as possible, contributing regularly to a number of charitable organizations during all types of natural disasters.
While her family had moved to several locations from Georgia, Michigan, Germany, Virginia and finally retiring in Fort Myers, Florida, home was where they were at the time, but Columbus was where her roots were. All who crossed her path in the journey of life always had a fond memory of their encounter, and all of the family will truly miss such a warm and loving soul along with the abundance of laughter. May she rest in peace in God’s loving arms and rejoin those who were awaiting her arrival to the heavenly body. You will be missed!
