Glendora Faye Whitehead's Obituary
Glendora F. Whitehead was called home by her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on August 23, 2020 at the age of 93, while in the loving care of Hope Hospice at HealthPark.
Glendora was born in Sherman, Okeechobee Co., Florida in 1927 to parents Roy A. Sharpless, Sr. and his wife Vera. The family eventually moved to Tampa Florida. She went to work at Raybro Electric Supply after being graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1945. At Raybro is where she met her future husband, Joseph L. Whitehead. They were married following a whirlwind 90-day courtship and became the proud parents of two daughters, Karen and Denise.
Joe and Glendora moved to Fort Myers in 1958 when Joe was transferred by Raybro to manage its Fort Myers location. Glendora then joined the staff of the former First National Bank and held several different responsible positions until her retirement in 1989.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, and her brother Roy A Sharpless, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Karen (Paul) Asfour and Denise Marino, her grandchildren Tanya (Brian) Roach, Shane (Jenna) Hulslander, David (LeRae) Asfour, all of Fort Myers, Shannon (Todd) Johnson of Sarasota and Joshua (Julie) Hulslander of Lake Placid. She is also survived by her sister Mary Sue (Dean) Atkinson of Fort Myers and sister in law, Reva Sharpless of Tampa as well as niece, Dale (Brian) Page and nephew, Dean (Mel) Atkinson.
She lived to see the birth of her great-grandchildren, Lyla Johnson, Brodie Johnson, Wyatt Roach, Campbell Johnson, Drake Asfour, Will Hulslander, Meredith Asfour, Finn Hulslander and Lennon Hulslander. She thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they all loved being with her. They affectionately referred to her as “Grandmother”, a title nobody ever deserved more or wore better.
She was a dedicated Christian and an active member of McGregor Baptist Church since 1964. During those years, she served in the nursery and as a member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry. She was loved by all who knew her and will be sorely missed. Her family and friends gain comfort in her passing by knowing she is in the loving arms of Jesus.
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic, immediate funeral services for Mrs. Whitehead will be private. At an undisclosed date and time, she will be buried at the Veteran's Raised Lawn Crypt section at Memorial Gardens Cemetery alongside her loving husband Joseph L. Whitehead who sadly preceded her in passing in 1982. A celebration of her life will be held at a later time. In honor of her memory, contributions can be made to one of the following: McGregor Baptist Church, McGregor Baptist Church Food Pantry; McGregor Baptist Church Prayer Shawl Ministry or Hope Hospice at HealthPark.
