Glenn Henry Nieland's Obituary
Glenn Henry Nieland of Fort Myers, Florida passed away following a recent illness on Thursday, November 6, 2014 with his loving family at his side. He was 94 years old.He was born on December 29, 1919 in Frankfort, Illinois, the proud son of Esther (Bruggeman) and Arthur T. Nieland. He grew up on the family farm and learned the meaning of hard work and dedication as one of the farm hands who cultivated and harvested wheat and milked cows. Just prior to being called to aid in the defense of our nation during World War II, he married the love of his life Elvira M. Stuckey on April 5, 1942. As a soldier in General Patton’s Third Army, Glenn landed in Normandy and marched across Europe. He was awarded four bronze battle stars and received several other decorations as part of his wartime enlistment.At the end of hostilities, Glenn returned to Illinois and to the wife he would eventually be married to for 72 years Together they raised three wonderful children and Glenn embarked on a very successful career in sales of Farm Equipment. Following retirement, he moved to the Fort Myers area in 1993 and remained active at many of his favorite organizations like the VFW, Moose and Elks.He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Elvira M. Nieland; his sons Robert and Richard Nieland and daughter Phyllis Conway ; his grandchildren Daniel P. Chambers, Mark Nieland, Kevin Nieland, John Nieland, Emily Nieland, Rachel Nieland and Abigail Nieland and one great-granddaughter Mia Chambers. He also leaves behind a large extended family and many friends who are saddened at the loss of his company.Glenn will be laid to rest at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in a private service.
