Glenn W. Twigg's Obituary
Glenn P. Twigg, Jr., age 75 of Alva and St. James City, Florida passed away on December 17, 2010 at his home.?á He was born March 19, 1935 in Snow Hill, MD to Glenn P. Twigg and Doris Haker Twigg both of whom preceded him in death. Upon retirement Glenn relocated to Florida from the Prince Frederick-Solomon Island of Maryland. Glenn was best known in the Washington, CD metropolitan area as the founder and President of Twigg Corporation, a general contracting firm.?á He championed the corporation to rank among the top competitive contractors specializing in Federal and State renovation projects.?á He left his mark in such buildings as the Departments of State, Agriculture, Education, Army, Air Force,and Navy, also NIH, FBI, CIA, the Pentagon, NASA Goddard and the White House.?á Glenn took great pride in accomplishments and his hope has been fulfilled by his children continuing to work primarily in the same profession. Glenn spent untold hours mentoring and training young candidates for the construction trades and frequently provided financial assistance to deserving apprentices to further their education and training.?á He will be remembered as a firm but fair employer, and several individuals spent many working years employed with his corporation.?á In his personal life he cared deeply about and anonymously supported the less fortunate, and the mentally and physically challenged, either directly or through charitable organizations. For years he sponsored faith-based?á programs that provided an education and an improvement in the living conditions of needy children.?á He held years-long memberships in the Elks and Moose Lodges.?á He was a 55 year member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 100 of Washington, DC.. He attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Ft. Myers, FL. In Maryland Glenn enjoyed raising thoroughbred horses, cattle and buffalo as a passive farm hobby.?á He loved nature and sincerely cared about wildlife.?á Another favorite hobby was snowmobile racing when he lived in northern snow country and held the title of the oldest winning racer for a number of years. Glenn is survived by his wife, Betty Deel Twigg; his daughter, Dana Marie Twigg of Annapolis, MD; his son, Thomas J. (Brenda) Twigg of Glenelg, MD; four granddaughters, Faith, Paige, Veronica and Maria Twigg; his former daughter-in-law, Victoria Wyatt of MD;?á A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Fort Myers, FL.?á Entombment will be private.?á Flowers are gratefully declined.?á Donations in Glenn?ÇÖs memory may be made to a charity of ones choice.?á Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home is assisting the family.
