Gloria "Pixie" June Rothstein Whitesman's Obituary
It is with great sadness that the Whitesman family gives notice of the passing of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Gloria June “Pixie” Rothstein Whitesman, age 98.
Gloria was born in 1926 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary and Wilson College. Gloria also completed a portion of a master’s degree in social work at the University of Chicago before terminating her studies to marry her late husband, Norman.
Norman and Gloria raised three sons, Barney, Guy (Ilene), and David. They were also blessed with grandchildren Louis (Dana), Joey and Jena, and great-grandchildren Astor, Barron, and Liv. Gloria is also survived by her sister, Sandra Goldring. She was pre-deceased by her husband Norman Whitesman, her parents, Barney and Ann Rothstein, and her brother Joseph Rothstein.
Gloria worked as a social worker for the City of Flint Department of Relocation prior to retiring. She and Norman moved to Fort Myers on retirement.
Gloria had a great run. She was wise until the very end, with a genuine interest and affection for the people in her life: family; friends, and the folks who staffed the facilities where she passed her final years. Gloria would remember their names, history and family and would greet them warmly, inquiring about their wellbeing and that of their loved ones at almost every interaction.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the charity of your choice in her memory.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33907.
