Grady Vaughn Sparkman's Obituary
Grady Vaughn Sparkman, 90, went home to heaven on January 25, 2013. Born in Quebeck, TN on April 28, 1922, Grady was an Air Force veteran of WWII. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Virginia Hutchings Sparkman, for 70 years. Grady worked for Sparta Electric, Water & Sewer System in Sparta, TN for 34 years, starting at the bottom and working his way up to manager.Grady was a volunteer fireman for 33 years. He was a member of the Civitan Club, Rotary Club, Lions Club and the First United Methodist Church of Sparta. Grady and Virginia were active band parents, managing the football and basketball concession stands for several years.Grady retired in 1982 and moved to N. Fort Myers, FL. He was a member of McGregor Baptist Church. He and Virginia volunteered as couriers at Lee Memorial Hospital for 15 years. They also volunteered at their church’s food pantry and worked in the church kitchen and office.Along with his wife, Grady is survived by their daughter, Denise Sparkman Plunkett, son-in-law Don and grandson Dylan. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.Service will be held at Hunter Funeral Home in Sparta, TN on Sat., Feb. 2 at 3 pm in with Hoyt Jones officiating. A memorial service will be held at McGregor Baptist Church, Hope Building, in Fort Myers, Florida on Saturday, February 9th at 2 pm with Pastor Rob Flint officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to the McGregor Baptist Food Pantry, c/o McGregor Baptist Church, 3750 Colonial Blvd., Ft. Myers, FL 33966.
