Gretchen R. Johnson's Obituary
Gretchen Johnson of Fort Myers Beach passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stan Johnson, mother and father, Richard and Lyndall Adam, brother and sister-in-law Dick and Bonnie Adams, and grandson Akiva.She is survived by brother-in-law Berwyn Johnson; her children, Susan Herzog of Brooklyn, Chris and Mary Johnson of Fort Myers Beach, Curt and Dee Johnson of Ocala, and Benyamin and Karla Korn of Philadelphia; grandchildren Lara, Carl, Moshe Mordechai, Cody, Yosef, Emanuel, Avichai, Nechama and Eliyahu; great-grandchildren Natalie, Garrett, Rachelli, Ahuva, Shmuel Yaakov, Tehilla Bracha, Paloma and Santiago; many special nieces and nephews; as well as her special friends, “The Sinful Seven”, they know who they are.Gretchen was born in San Francisco on June 29, 1926. She attended Santa Monica High and attended the Los Angeles Art Center. She married Stan Johnson on April 21, 1951 in Santa Monica CA. They raised their family in Iowa, Kansas and Minnesota. She and Stan moved to Fort Myers Beach in 1990 to start their retirement.Gretchen was an active member and past president of the Fort Myers Beach Art Association. She was a volunteer at Lee Memorial Health System, Iona Hope Thrift Shop, and CCIN and God’s Table Soup Kitchen. Gretchen was honored with the citizen of Distinction in 2017 by the Fort Myers Beach Town Council.A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, May 14, 2018 at St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church with Reverend Dr. John S. Adler as the officiant, 5601 Williams Drive, Ft. Myers, FL 33931.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation or the Fort Myers Beach Art Association in loving memory of Gretchen Johnson.Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33907, 239-936-0555.
