H. Steve Goldman's Obituary
H. Steve Goldman, 73, of Port Charlotte, Florida peacefully passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2016 with his wife, Marianne, by his side at the Tidewell Hospice home in Arcadia, Florida. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the American Legion Post 110, 3152 Harbor Boulevard, Port Charlotte, Florida 33952. Consistent with Steve’s upbeat nature, he insisted that his service not be somber. In fact, Steve required that his obituary state “he expects smiles, funny stories, and music”.Steve was born December 1, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Samuel and Rhoda (Fefer) Goldman. He graduated from Northeast High School in Philadelphia in 1960. Steve served in the U.S. Air Force as a Crew Chief and electronic weapon specialist before returning to the Philadelphia area to start a family. Upon relocating to Port Charlotte in the early 1980s, Steve built a good life for his family as the owner Suncoast Discount Tires, a well-known local tire store. After selling his tire store and beginning retirement, Steve lived life to the fullest. During his early retirement years, Steve, along with Marianne, kept busy by riding motorcycles, traveling, and sky-diving out of airplanes. But when these hobbies became too “ordinary” for Steve, he decided to immerse himself in his life-long interest in music. In his late 60’s, Steve learned to play bass guitar, then founded, lead, and played bass guitar for the As Is Band, a popular Classic Rock band in Port Charlotte. For years, Steve and his bandmates played 2-3 gigs per week at local watering holes, service clubs, and restaurants throughout Charlotte County. He enjoyed the musician’s life of awakening after Noon, playing a gig well into the night, and then finding his way to sleep just before Sunrise.Steve is survived by his loving wife, Marianne, of Port Charlotte; his daughter and son-in-law Marci and Jon Stocks of Victoria BC Canada; his son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Andrea Goldman, of Port Charlotte; his daughter, Susan Nielsen; his daughter, Marianne Staszewski; his son, Ray Staszewski; many loving members of an extended group of family, friends, and bandmates; and the biggest apples of his eye, grandchildren Elliana Stocks, Emily Stocks, Jacob Goldman, Ben Goldman, and Shane Staszewski. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Steve’s honor to the caring folks at Tidewell Hospice, Philanthropy Department, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, Florida 34238.
