Harold "Robby" Robinson Dowdy's Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Harold Robinson "Robby" Dowdy on February 28, 2024. Robby was born on August 1, 1952, to his loving parents who preceded him in death, Harold Park Dowdy and Jerry Ann Robinson.
Harold Park Dowdy moved to Lee County in 1937, where he worked in the jewelry business, alongside Jerry Ann Robinson Dowdy. Together they created a loving home for their family. Robby, the middle child of his siblings, was a lifelong resident of Fort Myers, Florida, where he spent his life spreading kindness and joy to all who knew him.
Robby was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He touched the lives of many through his unwavering love, compassion, and generosity. His infectious laughter and warm smile could brighten even the darkest of days.
After graduating from Fort Myers High School in 1970, Robby embarked on a career in the ambulance service in Lee County. He lived in the upstairs apartment of a funeral home, where he bravely responded to calls at night, demonstrating his commitment to helping others in their time of need.
Robby's passion for gemology led him to attend the Gemological Institute of America in Los Angeles, California, where he graduated and became a certified jewelry gemologist. He further honed his skills at the Bowman Technical Institute in Lancaster, PA, receiving their diploma in jewelry repair and stone setting. Robby worked alongside his father at the family jewelry store and spent many years at various other jewelry stores, where he shared his expertise and passion for gemstones with others.
In his retirement years, Robby found joy in working as a security guard at Shadow Wood Country Club, where he greeted everyone with a smile and friendly demeanor. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren, often offering them dimes to pick up pine cones until they picked them up too fast, prompting him to drop the price to a nickel.
Robby was a descendant of pioneer settlers of Hillsboro County, Florida, and took pride in his family's rich heritage. He was a dedicated Seminole fan, always cheering on his team with enthusiasm. Robby also had a deep love for cats and found joy in their companionship.
Though his passing was unexpected, the impact of Robby's life will continue to be felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His dedication to his family, his community, and his passions will be remembered fondly by all.
Robby is survived by his loving wife, Carol (Beer) Dowdy who was by his side when he passed away at home. He also leaves behind his children April Tom of Fort Myers, Heather Baron Fuller and Scott Fuller of Lehigh Acres, Ashlee Anderson Malone and Josh Malone of The Villages, FL grandchildren; Waylon Tom, Skylar Tom who married Tyler Gnagey on March 2, 2024, MaryEllen Baron, Madalynne Baron, Avery Baron, Adler Baron, and Amiyah Thomas, one great granddaughter Lily Tom, sister Laurie Jo Dowdy, brother John Park Dowdy and Wife Sona Dowdy, nephew Adam (Lindsey) Dowdy, niece Erin (Adrian) Sanchez, great nieces Margo Dowdy and Heidi Sanchez, extended family member, Brian Baron; as well as a wide circle of family and friends who will cherish his memory forever.
