I met Harriet as a young editor at the Clearwater Sun. She was my wise mentor who took me under her wing, and we spent long, long hours talking about journalism, feminism, and family — and where life would take us. Harriet introduced me to Marilyn French, who published The Women's Room about the time we met. Over the years, I kept in touch with Harriet, though less so as each decade passed. But a bit of her light remains with me still, and I will always remember the energy and passion she gave to her work, her beliefs, and her sons, Turner and Greg.
