Harry Gale Adams' Obituary
Harry Gale Adams, 81, of Fort Myers, FL passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Monday, June 29, 2015, at Hospice House of Cape Coral. He grew up in Spencer, West Virginia, and at 16 years of age was recognized as the Nation’s youngest fire chief. Harry graduated from Morris Harvey now known as the University of Charleston. Harry began his working career as assistant to the President of Gravely Tractors in Dunbar, West Virginia. He later was associated with the insurance industry in West Virginia and Ohio. Upon moving to Fort Myers in 1972, he became the credit manager of the American Department Store and was the announcer at the Naples-Fort Myers Greyhound Kennel Club. He served for 19 years as a member of the Board of Adjustments for the City of Fort Myers. He was the Executive Director of the Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Fort Myers for the last 23 years of his career where he worked tirelessly assisting low income families in obtaining housing and held classes on how to maintain their homes. After retirement, he wrote and had published a book entitled The Dancing Porch. He was a Scottish Rite Mason and served as an officer of the Aracoma Lodge #99 A.M.&F.M. He had memberships in several civic organizations and was a Kentucky Colonel. Harry was born on February 23, 1934, in Yawkey, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his father Harry Ross Adams, his mother Nina Kingrey Adams, and sister Evelyn Louise Adams Hoff. He is survived by Marie Adams, his wife of 41 years. He leaves many friends throughout the U.S. and Canada. A memorial service will be held at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33907, at 2:00 PM Friday, July 3, 2015, with Pastor Forrest Devore, Grace Baptist Temple, and Rev. James A. Bing, Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, officiating. Cremation rites will follow. In celebration of Harry’s life, memorials may be made to Harry Chapin Food Bank, 3760 Fowler Street, Fort Myers, Fl 33901 or Community Cooperative Ministries, 3429 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33916. The Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Mr. Adams. Interment will be at a later date in Lewisville, Ohio.
